Please email Carnival Cruise Lines to ask them to send a few ships NOW to house people for a week and to act as supply stations. Send them email here.
And check out Cooper and Emily's page. They're acting as a clearinghouse for donations of supplies and for people wanting to open their homes to victims.
Hey, Lutherans, if you want to help, you can donate to Lutheran Disaster Response (joint project of ELCA and LCMS).
If you're a member of Thrivent (insurance and investment products for Lutherans), they will give $1 for every $2 you give to LDR or other Lutheran disaster aid groups. Just fill out the form you can download from this page and send your check. Members in the Mid-South region can hold fundraisers and get matching money from Thrivent, too.
If you're a member of another religious denomination and want to put up info on your denomination's disaster response, feel free to post the links in the comment section here. We already have Seventh Day Adventist, United Jewish Federation, Catholic, LDS (Mormon), United Church of Christ, and Presbyterian listed.

good idea re: carnival. they're moving the ships to galveston (or already have) and trying to re-book the cruises to mexico from there. now, i can understand getting the ships out of the way of the storm--after all, look what happened to the big ships that were left--but now the ships could save lives.
